Welcome to our december newsletter
Many of us will be glad to be waving goodbye to 2009 as it will have proved to be one of the most difficult of years faced by all of us.
2010 stretches ahead of us bringing with it the likelihood of continuing trading challenges compounded further by a general election, as yet at an unspecified date, and a possible change of government.
But before we step into the unknown I am going to take this final newsletter of 2009 to wish all of you a very happy Christmas and prosperity in the New Year.
Please visit our website to view individual greetings from the Amplicon team.

With my warmest regards,

QNAP NAS OFF TO A FLYING START |
top |
|
The QNAP range of Network Attached Storage products occupy a unique space in the NAS market. Features such as iSCSI target and initiator, AES encryption, redundant power supplies, very fast I/O and extensive RAID capabilities position the products way above their very affordable price point. If you currently source NAS products but find your price too high or your product performance too low, see the full line of QNAP products here.
Projects have already emerged in the broadcast (market leading I/O speeds), military (1U form-factor suitable for flight case) and renewable energy sectors with further interest from the IP CCTV security market.
Amplicon can provide a free NAS evaluation unit (with disks) for qualified projects - call our technical sales team for more information.

AWK-5222 - Amplicon's first 'dual radio' Access Point
|
top |
|
The AWK-5222 is an industrial grade Access Point (AP) with dual radios. Radio 1 can be set for 802.11b/g operation and Radio 2 can be set for 802.11a/b/g operation. The 5222 leverages the 2 separate RF bands to provide 'redundant wireless bridge capability' - a feature rarely found in APs and very useful for mission-critical industrial applications.
'Turbo roaming' allows fast roaming between APs when the 5222 is in client mode of operation. This means that mobile devices will quickly associate and disassociate with APs as they pass through large industrial sites. This is useful when adding WLAN capability to devices such as cranes, fork-lift trucks and other vehicles.
To read more about the AWK-5222 please visit Amplicon's website or call our technical sales team to understand more about Amplicon's wireless networking options.

EtherStax - Ultra fast remote I/O
|
top |
|
The new EtherStax is a high density, stackable, remote I/O device, able to measure 32 process signals in less than 5 milliseconds. This means it is ideal for critical alarm monitoring applications that need real-time updates of many inputs.
All channels can be integrated into SCADA systems or re-transmitted using peer-to-peer communications over Ethernet at high speed. The EtherStax comes with a built-in 2-port switch allowing several units to be stacked. This enables monitoring of a large factory or site using just one copper or fibre-optic cable. Consequently, installation costs and time can be greatly reduced.
To find out more about the range of EtherStax devices please visit Amplicon's website or call our Measurement and Control team.

Want a free Operating System?
|
top |
|
Many of Amplicon's Industrial PCs are fully PXE compliant meaning that there is no requirement for a Hard Disk Drive or an Operating System (OS). In a project with several PCs on a single site, this solution has the potential to save thousands of pounds in hardware and software costs.
PXE is a remote boot (thin client) capability that uses DHCP and TFTP to install a limited operating system into the PC's memory. www.openthinclient.org is an example of a free OS used with Amplicon's range of Panel PCs.
Call the Amplicon sales team for more information on this innovative cost-saving solution.
