Amplicon fundraises £1000 for Breast Cancer Now

On Friday 30th October, Team Amplicon hosted a fundraising day for Breast Cancer Now raising a grand total of £1,000.

For more than 10 years, Amplicon has come up with creative ideas to raise funds for breast cancer research. From wearing it pink days to inter-company football fundraisers, the events have always been an outstanding success. In the last 5 years Amplicon have managed to raise an amazing £5,475.

This year, with the current covid-19 situation, Amplicon had to hang-up their football boots and move the fun to the office where the team had the chance to dress down and get involved in a variety of fundraising activities. These included a comedy socks competition, a table football tournament and a raffle for the chance to win couture clothing and a one-to-one Pilate’s sessions.

For a small £2 donation, the Amplicon team was invited to take part in a comedy socks competition judged by CFO, Mark Bushby. The prize, a half-day holiday was clearly very popular with everyone, bringing in the most unexpected and hilarious socks designs. From 1920’s shoes design and custom face-printed socks to superman socks including little red caps.

The table football tournament also proved to be a great success. Several brave employees registered for the tournament demonstrating their high self-confidence as by doing so they were putting themselves forward to play against the Amplicon table football pro-player, Miriam Bernal. Miriam showed her kinder side by letting everyone score a few goals! The prizes on offer were 6 luxury bottles of sparkling wine and 2 big packs of beer.

Last but not least, Amplicon had a Pink raffle competition. For just £3 per ticket, everyone had the chance of winning a private Pilates session, couture clothing made and donated by fashion designer Phillip Cobbett. The winners were delighted to receive their prizes and left the building wearing the fabulous clothing items.

Amplicon is proud to support Breast Cancer Now in their research projects and the life-changing care and support they provide, and to contribute so they can create a future where everyone who develops breast cancer lives – and is supported to live well.

Rachel Finch, Community Fundraising Manager at Breast Cancer Now, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Amplicon for its wonderful support.

One woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 10 minutes in the UK, and the unprecedented uncertainty resulting from the coronavirus outbreak means those affected by the disease need our world-class research and life-changing care now more than ever. We’re determined to make sure anyone affected by the disease gets the support they need, the whole way through this crisis and beyond, but we can’t do it alone.

Amplicon’s generous donation will help Breast Cancer Now to continue our vital work, providing support for today and hope for the future for everyone affected by breast cancer.”

Summer Kendrick, Wear It Pink Manager at Breast Cancer Now, said:  “We want to send a heartfelt thank-you to Amplicon for holding a wear it pink event and for their vital support during these unprecedented times. We hope you had a wonderful time, whilst safely raising vital funds for breast cancer research and care.

The coronavirus crisis has had a devastating impact on Breast Cancer Now’s ability to deliver the progress and support that so many people affected by breast cancer rely on us for. People affected by breast cancer, our nurses and scientists urgently need support, now more than ever before. In October 2020, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we asked people to wear pink, raise money and make life-changing breast cancer research and care happen. Thank you so much for wearing it pink with us.”
