Amplicon walking challenge raises £1,400 for Pancreatic Cancer UK
Throughout the month of July, Brighton based computer manufacturer Amplicon carried out a 100-mile walking challenge in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK.
Amplicon aimed to raise much needed funds for this devastating disease that affects over 10,000 people annually throughout the UK. Amplicon dedicated the walking challenge to Ben Barden, father in law of sales manager, Richard Munson. Ben sadly lost his fight with pancreatic cancer in July 2020.
Team Amplicon stepped up to the 100 mile walking challenge, and with an amazing effort by all concerned; they finished the challenge with an incredible 235.5 miles completed and raised a tremendous £1,400 for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
By way of celebration, Amplicon hosted a memorial day on 30th July to mark the successful conclusion of the fundraising challenge. Linda Barden, Ben’s widow, and her daughter Tracey were the guests of honour at a delicious hog roast; this was followed by some fun and games, pass the parcel, musical chairs and balloon pop.
Pancreatic cancer is difficult to diagnose, treat and survive, and receives very little funding. This particular disease has the lowest survival of the 20 most common cancers in the UK, with only seven percent of people living for five years or more after diagnosis.
Sue Collins, Director of Fundraising at Pancreatic Cancer UK, said: “We are delighted Team Amplicon is supporting us and we would like to wish Amplicon the very best of luck. The funds raised will help us to take on this extremely tough disease, which around 10,000 people are diagnosed with every year in the UK. The funds raised by Amplicon will help us offer support to patients and families, invest in vital research to help us see the breakthroughs we urgently need, and be a voice for everyone affected by the disease.”
