Local businesses join Amplicon to raise funds for Breast Cancer Now

On Friday 19th October, Brighton based computer manufacturer, Amplicon, hosted a football fundraising event in aid of Breast Cancer Now; the UK’s largest breast cancer charity dedicated to funding research into breast cancer. The event raised an outstanding £1,000.

This charity initiative was introduced by Amplicon three years ago, and what started as an opportunity for Amplicon employees to have a bit of fun outside the workplace has now become an inter-company football event. This year Amplicon invited other businesses operating in the estate and team registrations were quickly received from Shaws of Brighton and AJ Taylor Electrical.

The 5-aside football fundraiser consisted of two football matches. The first match, Amplicon vs Shaws of Brighton, kicked off at 4:30pm. This was followed by a second match at 5:30pm where Amplicon played against the AJ Taylor Electrical team.

The games were great fun, although a small amount of competitive spirit managed to sneak in, but when the second game finally ended, everyone was exhausted and were looking forward to a well-earned hot bath.

The three teams had given 100% and in the process helped to raise an amazing £1,000 for Breast Cancer Now. Giving back to the community is a huge part of the Amplicon philosophy, and everyone thoroughly embraced the football fundraiser with the goal of contributing funds to enable more research into finding a cure for this devastating disease.

Miriam Bernal, Marketing Manager at Amplicon and organiser of the event said: “We really enjoyed the football match, raising vital funds for Breast Cancer Now. This is a cause very close to the hearts of some of the Amplicon employees."

If research has the funding it needs to continue, we can help Breast Cancer Now reach their aim, that by 2050 anyone who is diagnosed with breast cancer will live. We will continue supporting this great cause and would encourage other Brighton companies to join us and fundraise to help stop women dying of breast cancer."

Sami Colenutt, Senior Community Fundraising Manager at Breast Cancer Now said: “We’re so grateful for the continued support we have received from Amplicon, AJ Taylor Electrical and Shaws of Brighton. Thank you to each and every one of the players and to the sponsors who donated generously, we hope everyone enjoyed the football match."

“Breast cancer is still the most common cancer in the UK, with 55,000 women diagnosed each year. Thanks to our dedicated supporters, such as Amplicon, Breast Cancer Now can continue to fund vital research to stop this disease in its tracks.”
